REGULARUTIES OF SYMBOLS It is spectacular, exciting, thought-provoking. It seems to give you useful patterns, and you fall into the world of active visual symbols. It is difficult to forget. Professor V.S. TURCHIN Transcript of the speech footage made during the opening of the exposition “Diversity in Unity: the Territory of the Systematism Fine Energies” December 3, 2014. - Sometimes things just happen to work. You just feel it. - The idea became especially relevant in the XX century, when the triumphant progress of science led to understanding of the most incredible patterns in the field of energy and matter organisation rules. That’s what triggered the Avant-Garde and the world-acknowledged Russian Avant-Garde. Obviously, the works by Gaev-Orlov rest on the experience of the Russian Avant-Garde, constructivism, experiments of Malevich and Lisitsky. It is a real tradition that builds a foundation for further development. - They are great visual symbols with a huge energetic influence. The works are easy to remember and they will remain in your memory in form of some visual image. And that’s the point. - Their voice is clearly-articulated: you can feel it, see it, hear it. The author does deserve credit for that. It is quite difficult to get heard now. But he, no doubt, has managed. I’m satisfied with the results. - The artist strives to discover structures that represent something within, in our being. Communicating these “riddles of the universe”, he is reminding us that they do exist. And it is crucial. - You can enjoy the forms that artists present, that is really something to feast your eyes on. And we do need such pure aesthetic reflexion. They let us join the world of great visual symbols. It is important and meets the needs of contemporary culture as a whole. - In fact, many universities, at least those located in Germany and the USA, have their own museums. They may not be contemporary art museums. But they generally are fine art museums with collections of considerable scale. Prestige of a university partly depends on whether it has such museum or not. That is why we have been discussing the idea of establishing our own university museum in different versions for about ten years, until we finally decided it’s time. We don’t know yet, if it will be called a museum or just a collection, but what’s clear is that it will be a contemporary art collection. It is the only realistic way to do it. This exhibition is the first step to show the public that we want to establish such museum. We find that the artist presented is of the highest interest, and his works are topical and really suiting these walls, they are a perfect match. It is perfectly appropriate for the university that is interested both in science and art, as well as any interactions in between. It’s good from any angle. Both the university and the artist can benefit from the project. - The exhibition works have great ambitions, they are to decorate large offices, museums. They show certain solemnity, unbelievable visual intensity. They appeal to you, get ingrained in your mind, they organise space. In the Western countries, banks and offices are filled with contemporary art items, which are usually a bit unrealistic, figurative, symbolic, signlike. These art forms can provoke some abstract thinking, or, just the opposite, lead to a calm, dormy meditation, but never impose any program, dominating image. Clearly, the works of these artist make us think about cosmic systems. It is not bad, because it shows us a way out from the routine in the direction of thinking about the nature of being. The works contain such a provocation.
