REGULARUTIES OF MINIMALISM KORNEVA-CHAEVA IRINA Senior Research Scientist of the archive of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Member of the Art Association. Systematism Art – from Intuitive Judgement to Scientific Substantiation In April 2012, the I International Applied Research Conference, SCIENCE ART, initiated by three MSU faculties, the Faculty of Philosophy, the Faculty of Biology, and the Faculty of Chemistry, took place in the Moscow State University. [1] The reports focused on recognising the fact that science, art and technology integrate and simultaneously converge and intermix in the contemporary world, while they have existed separately for a long time before. Interdisciplinary area has started taking shape in science, which requires communication of thought. It was followed by the formation of a new interdisciplinary area “enabling productive synthesis of discoursive thinking and intuitive judgement, where numerous and often successful attempts at adapting scientific methodology to result in science-based art, as well as using artistic methods to shape new scientific theories.” [2] Due to the potential and factual culture/anthropology-derived factors that make the languages of science and art synthesizable, this new type of creative activities may have «gnosiological characteristics pertaining to neither science, nor art, when taken separately”. [3] This new area is usually denoted as science art. Today, thanks to the technological revolution of art that took place in the second half of the XX century, artist may use any materials, techniques and media. The structure of genres and forms in the contemporary art changed, too. New synthetic forms of the visual integrating fine, plastic arts, literature, philosophy and scientific discoveries. Convergence of the scientific and artistic cognition within human activities resulted in such types of creators as researching artist, artist/scientist, techno-bio-artist, researching choreographer, engineering composer, performance experiment. [4] While terms artist/scientist and researching artist were used as long ago as to refer to Leonardo da Vinci, which was mostly to underline his universalism and the attention to all natural phenomena underlying his artistic works, techno-bio-artist, researching choreographer, engineering composer, performance experiment, etc. are characteristic of the modern literature and are to describe sociocultural changes of the XX-XI centuries. The concept of artist/scientist and researching artist have not disappeared from the scientific discourse, but they transformed to adjust to the peculiarities of the XXI century creator. Now, let us turn the attention to the art theory and practice of the artist of high current interest, Dmitry Gaev-Orlov. He is the inventor of a brand-new art movement called Systematism Art. According to the artist’s own wording from the Systematism Manifest [5], it is “art research culture demonstrating the victory of natural systemic regularities.” Thus, Mr. Gaev-Orlov considers himmself researching artist and representative of science art. There is one biographic fact worth mentioning: Dmitry Gaev-Orlov obtained his first degree in medicine at a Moscow University. After that, he continued his education by studying the history of art in several prestigious New York institutions. Therefore, his “synthetic” education led to researching science/ art synthesis. Gaev-Orlov lecturing during exhibitions is another feature of the artists’ work resembling science art. The artist presents the systematism principles based on the works includedin the exposition in addition to the illustrations selected and included in the Functional Table of Systematism serving as “an art navigation system.” [6] Supposedly, scientific substantiation of the systematism figurative culture turned into a technique of creating new contemporary art forms.
