At the unveiling I was with Natalia Andreichenko. We were at the front. The Symbol of Kindness was covered with white silk attached to dozens of bal- loons. The unveiling was in the dusk. It looked like the Dandelion was sur- rounded with stones. When music came on, very young children came out with watering cans and started to water those stones. «The stones» became alive. Those were ballerinas that were representing the flight of the seeds of a dandelion like the flight of the seeds of kindness around the world. The most amazing thing was that the ballerina in the centre was pregnant. The mayor looked at me and said that Mexico was pregnant with kindness. That ceremony was a big lesson in mutual understanding for me. Lesson 8. Every Action is a Boomerang We all long kindness. We always want problems to be solved with kindness. We understand that this is the only right thing. What stops us always acting kindly? When we make decisions, we focus on our interests and often do things that are off the limit of kindness. Then isn’t it strange to wait for a good outcome for our actions if we cross a line and act unkindly? Everything is very simple – if we want to be treated with kindness, we should be kind. It is enough to fully embrace the idea that if you expect to be treated well, just treat other people the same way. This kindness will return to you manyfold. It is very straight forward. We pursue our interests, profit, benefits forgetting about kindness. Only ani- mals act this way. A human being is a person only when they are kind. Economy based on observing only own interests always leads to a war where millions perish and countries are destroyed. Only things created from the posi- tion of kindness will be kind. This is the essence of life, essence of human life. We keep looking for the meaning of life and trying to figure out how to act to be happy. The only thing needed is to be kind. The first point of the constitution of the International Academy of Kindness is «A human is a person only if they are kind.» This is a totally new outlook on people and human history. If a person is unkind, then who are they? Our history is the history of wars, tortures, inquisition and concentration camps. What kind of history is it? This is the history of a beast that has a consciousness. When I was sculpting a portrait of the great philosopher and sociologist EdgarMo- rin, I shared with himmy theory about kindness. He exclaimed giving me a mas- sive hug «Human history has not started yet. I have written twenty books about it.» When I say that «A human is a person only when they are kind» I lay out a coordinate system and messages that explain why there is so much suffering, injustice and pain in the word. On top of it, these show us the way out of the current situation in the world. The way out is in turning the beast into a person. Best representatives of our civilizations like Jesus Christ, Buddah, Confucius, Lao- Tze, L. Tolstoy, F. Dostoevsky, A. Pushkin, Ghandi were preaching that. Over centuries it was becoming obvious that only kindness and gratitude can destroy the beast in a person. The XX century full of great trials and tribulations was the time of great achievements in this sphere. Christian idea of justice underlain the communist ideology, provided the basis for creating communist states. This brought hu- man civilization to an unprecedented level, sped up the development of science and technologies. These achievements came at a price – people went through atrocities and wars. Communists were and are criticised in the harshest pos- sible way but they created a new society based on new, more just principles. They had some significant limitations though. Their narrow-mindedness did not allow them to provide answers to questions «Why so many people were sav- aged?» and «How to evolve to ensure a good future for people?» I was born in the GULAG. Humanity has not come up with anything more cruel than concentration camps. I ask the sacramental question «Has human- ity thought of any other way of creating a new, better society other than ones involving mass murdering?» It is pointless to blame communists for their ac- tions that were exactly like things that happened in many other countries. Nowadays, the example of China shows that a billion people have a very high standard of life and they have a hope for a good future. If the communist party ditches their ideology and use the categories of kindness and gratitude instead, China will have a brilliant future. The crisis of the western culture is that it created a surrogate of kindness and gratitude. These great ideas were replaced with the word tolerance. People in power can always shift the boundaries of tolerance and easily manipulate the mass consciousness. If a person is brought up with the ideas of kindness and gratitude since early childhood, they will consciously choose kindness as the guiding principle in life and become a citizen with a true spiritual integrity. If a person is truly kind,
